About Me

I was never particularly interested in cooking, however I've always had a lifelong passion for eating good food. This became a bit of a problem for me when I lived on campus at university, where the food rather questionable. Without ever realising where it might take me, I started cooking more and more in my college dorm to the point that I hardly ate food from the commercial kitchen downstairs. This required a lot of inventive thinking because I only had a fridge, toaster, jug to boil water, a blender and a sandwich toaster. But, despite being wildly unequipped, I managed to cater for almost every meal for myself for 6 months, and so The Orange Kitchen was born.

I didn't last very long at college, and soon moved into my own place nearby with a fully fledged kitchen. Gifted with the endless free time that university students tend to have, I spent most of my days creating things in the kitchen and taking photos of my handiwork. I decided that I like a challenge, so became vegan at the time, partly as a way to overhaul my lifestyle to become healthier and partly because I loved the challenge of veganising 'regular' food. These days I'm just a vegetarian, mostly because I'm now an adult with a fulltime job so gone are the days of oodles of free time to create inventive things in the kitchen. While I don't regret spending five years of my life as a vegan, it is hard to ignore the added convenience and the greater amount of options that being vegetarian brings.

These days, I work full time as a commercial lawyer practicing in banking and finance law. I don't often have the chance to cook anymore, but my love of good food nonetheless lives on. When I do cook, I continue to use the recipes on this blog and, while life has somewhat moved on, wanted to leave this corner of the internet in existence. From day one, this has been my own digital cook book, and also that of over 150,000 people from around the world. I'm intensely humbled to have shared my love of food and perhaps opened some minds about how interesting, tasty and easy to cook vegan and vegetarian food can be. There are days that I miss the creative outlet that The Orange Kitchen brought me for so many years, but when those feelings hit, I like to scroll through this site and find inspiration from past me for all the things that current me might make for dinner, or lunch, or that Sunday baking session.
